President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the inaugural Africa Green Hydrogen Summit in Cape Town today.

The two-day summit is being held under the theme Unlocking Africa’s Green Hydrogen Potential for Sustainable Growth

The Summit brings together African energy ministers, policymakers, investors, developers, technology partners, and researchers. The aim is to shape the continent’s emerging green hydrogen sector.

The Africa Green Hydrogen Summit 2025 comes at a crucial time for the continent’s clean energy transition.

Green hydrogen is hydrogen that is produced using renewable energy such as wind, solar, or hydro power through electrolysis.

It contributes to the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Meanwhile, Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, says Africa does not have a renewable energy challenge but one of poor investment in energy from the continent.

Ramokgopa says it is important for the continent to resolve its energy crisis, as electricity is going to power the production of hydrogen.
