After severe floods President Ramaphosa surveys the dam in Mthatha
President Cyril Ramaphosa says government will look into the cause of the severe flooding that affected the Decoligny area of Mthatha.
This follows claims the flooding was due to the sluice gates of the Mthatha Dam being opened.
The Department of Water and Sanitation has refuted the claims regarding sluice gates.
At least 79 people have died in flooding this week in the Eastern Cape.
The President visited the area and says the issue will be looked into,
“The Mthatha Dam does not have a sluice gate and it cannot be that the water was opened to flow in a different direction. We need to look at exactly what the flow of the water was and that it was flowing down and gathered at a certain place and reversed. It does happen when floods are in full flight.”
