Ashwin Trikamjee
President Cyril Ramaphosa has sent his condolences to the family of Ashwin Trikamjee, who passed away at the age of 80 in a Johannesburg hospital on this morning.
Trikamjee was the president of the South African Hindu Maha Sabha and the National Religious Leaders’ Forum.
Ramaphosa described him as “an outstanding icon of service.”
Trikamjee was an attorney who served as president of the former Natal Law Society and the Association of Law Societies of South Africa. He also chaired the African Regional Forum of the International Bar Association and was a member of its Human Rights Committee.
“As a Black Consciousness activist, he also led the Durban Central component of the Natal Indian Congress, and he was a vice-president of the South African Football Association,” says Ramaphosa.
The president highlighted Trikamjee’s contributions across various fields, stating that he dedicated his life to improving communities.
