Ramaphosa orders tighter security for Madlanga Commission witnesses

President Cyril Ramaphosa has reiterated that security will be tightened for Madlanga Commission witnesses following the attempted hit on Wiandre Pretorius Thursday morning at Ekurhuleni.

Pretorius was implicated by murdered Witness D at the Commission for his involvement in the alleged torturing and killing of a man by the Ekurhuleni Metro Police officers in 2022 during interrogation.

Last year, Witness D, Marius van der Merwe, was murdered after his testimony at the commission.

Ramaphosa has told the media in Pretoria that such incidents are concerning.

“We are terribly appalled at attempts being made by those who have been doing wrong things against witnesses and we want to tighten security much more so that those witnesses who are giving evidence online should not be easily identified. It’s completely unacceptable and this is the reason why we set the Madlanga Commission so that we can get to the heart of all the shenanigans that are happening with regards to these gangs and these entities that are trying to capture the police.”
