President Cyril Ramaphosa says he is optimistic that the country will be able to grow the economy over the next coming years.
The President said this during the oral question and answer session in Parliament in Cape Town.
He told the house government has been able to formulate viable and tangible economic growth plans.
” Financial resources, so the attainment of what we have out in our statement of intent is precisely how we want to fund these and fund our ambitions going forward. And I do believe that we have the capability to do so. Our growth ambitions are beyond what has been projected now. We want to grow our economy at a higher level and sitting down in the next few days as the government of national unity (GNU) to properly structure our real growth path.”
Meanwhile, government says there are a number of programmes that are in the pipeline to address the high unemployment numbers in the country.
The GNU says this plan also includes the fast-tracking of the economic growth during the current financial year to mitigate the serious impact of the unemployment figures.
Ramaphosa revealed this during the oral answer session before the National Assembly.
“All that we are doing to assist our small medium enterprises and with regard to staving off the high employment, a number of programmes are under way. But in the end, we have got to grow our economy and growing our economy requires that we should make South Africa an investable economy so those with money can come to South Africa and say we want to invest.”
