Ramaphosa, Mashatile co-chair the GNU leaders’ retreat in Mogale City

President Cyril Ramaphosa and Deputy President Paul Mashatile co-chair the Government of National Unity (GNU) Leaders Retreat at the Cradle Stone Boutique Hotel in Mogale City.

Ramaphosa has summoned several party leaders in the GNU to a meeting in Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg, following recent disagreements, accusations and counter-accusations by some within the ten-party pact.

Last week, the parties signed the newly adopted terms of reference for the GNU Clearing House led by Deputy President Paul Mashatile.

PAC spokesperson Apa Pooe whose party is also attending the meeting, says the one-day gathering seeks to find consensus.

In 2024, President Ramaphosa announced the establishment of a GNU Clearing House Mechanism to resolve policy disagreements within the 10-member GNU and delegated Deputy President Mashatile to lead the GNU Clearing House.

Mashatile, in his capacity as the Chairperson of the GNU Clearing House Mechanism, recently convened a virtual meeting of the structure, which finally adopted its Terms of Reference.

Ramaphosa, Mashatile and other GNU leaders also took time out to watch and cheer on the Proteas Women in the ICC Women’s World Cup final on the sidelines of the GNU leaders’ retreat.

The Proteas Women are facing India in the historic final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
