Ramaphosa hails medical team for conjoined twins separation

President Cyril Ramaphosa has congratulated a medical team responsible for the surgery that separated conjoined twins at Mankweng Hospital outside Polokwane in Limpopo.

The twins who were born in January were joined at the abdomen and chest.

Paediatric surgeon Nyaweleni Tshifularo led a multi-disciplinary medical team that separated them.

Ramaphosa praised the team in a phone call to Dr Tshifularo.

“We thank you for having succeeded in doing this unbelievable and complicated, difficult operation. One thing is, I’ll never be a doctor, but I’m a doctor by marriage. I can just imagine how difficult the operation was, so I congratulate all of you and the nation is filled with pride.”
