Ramaphosa hails ANC members who ‘stepped aside’ voluntarily

African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa says party members who are stepping aside voluntarily should be applauded.

He was delivering the closing address at the ANC’s National General Council (NGC) in Boksburg, East Rand.

Ramaphosa says, “”Those members who are stepping aside voluntarily while the matters that could bring the ANC into disrepute are being processed are to be applauded because a number of them have come forward.”

He says, “In honouring the integrity of the ANC they are the ones who themselves say, I would like to step aside. The issues that impact on the integrity of the ANC are being taken to heart by the membership and this is to be welcomed because this is an area where we are seeing progress on a progressive basis.”

FINAL REPORT

The party’s NGC which has taken place over the last four days has come to a close.

The over 1600 delegates attending the ANC’s mid-term review adopted the council’s final report, which consisted of resolutions resulting from discussion in a range of commissions.

The resolutions aim to bring about transformation of South Africa’s political economy, grow jobs, reduce poverty and inequality and improve service delivery.

The party’s Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula read the final declaration.

Mbalula says, “The 5th National General Council instructs the NEC to immediately translate these recommendations into a renewal and rejuvenation action plan with marching orders to ANC deployees in executive authorities, public representatives, NEC, PEC and REC members and above all in the basic unit of the movement, the ANC branches across the length and breadth of the country.”

He adds, “The 5th National General Council calls on all ANC leaders, members and supporters to put shoulder to wheel to implement this renewal and rejuvenation action plan.”

RESOLUTIONS

The ANC Veterans League (ANCVL) has vowed to ensure that the resolutions undertaken at the party’s NGC are implemented.

The League’s President Dr Snuki Zikalala says it has noted that the party has some of the best policies but struggles to implement them.

Zikalala says, “People who are here, these 1700 people, they have taken resolutions now, and so we have 17 commissions. Out of the 17 commissions, they are now being reported and commissions were sitting yesterday, the whole day and yesterday evening.”

He adds, “People are participating actively in those commissions. The ANC has got the best, best policies in the world but in terms of implementation, it’s not there, and so what we are seeing as veterans, we’re going to monitor to make sure that the implementation of all the resolutions that have been taken at this NGC must happen.”
