This visit will enable Pretoria and Washington DC to reset the strategic relationship between the two countries.
There are a number of issues on the agenda including trade, investment, geopolitical issues and the genocide claims that have been backed by Trump, despite South African authorities’ insistence that there is no political persecution in the country.
It’s a pivotal moment as Pretoria and Washington DC want to reset their bilateral ties. Relations have been strained since President Donald Trump’s return to the White House.
Other issues on the table include the G20 summit and the smooth transition as the US will take-over from South Africa.
President Ramaphosa says the relationship between the two countries is important.
This is set to be one of the much-anticipated political engagements for President Ramaphosa. The President says he’s unfazed and looks forward to engaging with President Trump.
