Ramaphosa aims to strengthen bilateral relations with Indonesia

President Cyril Ramaphosa is in Indonesia on a state visit to strengthen bilateral relations with Jakarta.

He says Pretoria is looking to diversify its trade relations with Asian countries. This is after the US implemented a 30% tariff increase against South Africa on goods exported to the US markets.

He is on a three-nation visit, including Malaysia and Vietnam.

President Ramaphosa says he also engaged Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on a variety of global matters.

“We agreed on the need to increase trade between our two countries as a catalyst for inclusive economic growth. We discussed global issues as partners in organisations such as BRICS, the G20 and the Non-Aligned Movement, among others. We affirmed the need to strengthen the multilateral system, so as to enhance peaceful resolution of conflict through dialogue.”
