New homes for Deelpan community
President Cyril Ramaphosa says government’s provision of subsidised housing to almost four million South Africans over the years, has helped to address the issue of asset poverty.
He was delivering the annual address to the National Council of Provinces earlier today in Cape Town.
Ramaphosa says although they have provided subsidised housing many South African still struggle to get title deeds.
He says government is working to remove the backlog and reform the title deeds system to make it more affordable and accessible.
“If you were just to calculate the value of the houses that have been handed down to about four million South Africans on a straight-line calculation of average value. If every one of the houses today are worth a R100 000, it means that we have handed down about R400 billion in value to the people of our country numbering about four million in the form of houses.”
