R300 mln set aside to electrify Johannesburg’s informal settlements

The City of Johannesburg Mayor, Dada Morero says close to R 300 Million has been set aside to electrify informal settlements in the city.

He delivered his State of the City Address in Braamfontein yesterday.

Morero says provision of electricity in informal settlements is a priority.

He says, “The electrification of in informal settlements remains a top priority. With a R296 million allocation focused on connecting to the grid, areas such as Diepsloot, Orange Farm and Kaya Sands. This initiative will provide safe and legal electricity access to thousands of households and laying the ground for service upgrades and formalisation.”
