[FILE IMEGE]: Public Works and infrastructure minister, Sihle Zikalala.
Deputy Minister for Public Works and Infrastructure, Sihle Zikalala, says the department will be tabling a new policy before Cabinet in the coming months to increase contracts for locals.
He was speaking during the Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium in Cape Town.
Zikalala says the proposed policy will also help to prevent disruption to projects, caused by the construction mafia.
“We must commend the work of the police in this regard. We have seen the decrease, but we are saying let us ensure that there is facilitation. That’s why as the department, we will be taking to Cabinet a social facilitation policy that we want to roll out so that we continue to include local contractors and local people in development. But do so in a proper way,” says Zikalala.
