Public Protector clears uMngeni Mayor Chris Pappas on nepotism

The Public Protector has found no evidence of improper conduct after anonymous allegations of nepotism and corruption were made against uMngeni Mayor in KwaZulu-Natal Chris Pappas.

The Public Protector’s office says in a statement that it was alleged Pappas had failed to declare his relationship with his fiancé’ Jean-Pierre Prinsloo who chairs uMngeni Tourism.

It’s a Municipal Tourism entity that received R100 000 from the City Council.

The Public Protector has found that Pappas and Prinsloo had indeed made the required declarations, and the funding was approved by the town Council through a formal resolution.
