PSL board to decide on Royal AM expulsion

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) is expected to reach a final decision on the future of financially troubled club Royal AM at a Board of Governors meeting in Sandton today.

This follows a recommendation by the PSL executive committee last week to expel the KwaZulu-Natal-based club from the league. Royal AM was placed under curatorship in December 2024 due to a R40 million debt owed by owner Shauwn Mkhize to the South African Revenue Service (SARS).

If the expulsion is confirmed, the Premiership will continue with 15 teams. All of Royal AM’s match results will be nullified, which will affect the current league standings.

Several clubs, including current log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, will face points deductions. Sundowns lead Orlando Pirates by 12 points, although Pirates have four matches in hand.
