The Public Servants Association (PSA) says the death of an intern doctor at a KwaZulu-Natal hospital shows the collapse of the health system in the province.
25-year-old Dr. Alulutho Mazwi at the Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital in Umlazi, Durban a week ago.
It is reported that his supervisor allegedly forced him to work even though he was ill and fainted twice while on duty.
Health Minister Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi says he is concerned about allegations that have emerged following Mazwi’s death.
Sama’s KwaZulu-Natal Chairperson, Dr. Zanele Bikitsha says, “What has happened at Prince Mshiyeni reminds us of the apartheid system, which ill-treated our people. It’s even becoming so difficult, what has happened at Prince Mshiyeni, where we expect the employer to protect the employee. The ultimate death of Dr Mazwi is a clear indication of the collapsed system in KZN.”
