Proteas women chase World Cup glory

Cricket fever is running high in KwaZulu-Natal as Durbanites rally behind South Africa’s national women’s cricket team.

The Proteas are set to face India in One Day International ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup final, tomorrow, a historic moment as the team looks to make its mark on the global stage.

Local Dolphins under-16 head coach, Dheyanka Naidoo, says the Proteas women have fought hard to reach this point.

She believes South Africa stands a strong chance of taking the title.

“It’s exciting. Everyone’s kind of planning what to do, on Sunday to go and watch the game and support the the ladies. I know there’s a lot of sports on but that’s the channel we’re going to be watching. I hope their prep is good and I know it’s going to be really tough playing India at home. I think if we can quiet that noise and just focus on the ball-by-ball I think the girls can cross the line,” adds Naidoo.
