Proteas suffer heaviest ODI defeat

Like in the series against Australia last month, the South African menโ€™s cricket team was on the wrong side of One Day International (ODI) history again today.

England who could no longer win the series and only had pride to play for, beat the Proteas by a mammoth 342 runs in the third and final ODI in Southampton this evening.

Itโ€™s the biggest margin of victory in ODI history.

It was set up by an innings of 414 for five by the home side, with centuries from Joe Root and Jacob Bethell against a depleted South African attack.

The home side then bowled out the Proteas for a dismal 72 in less than 21 overs with Jofra Archer and leg-spinner Adil Rachid sharing seven wickets between them.

The Proteas, however, will celebrate a second consecutive series win against one of the so-called big three away from home.

The two teams now move on to Cardiff for the first of three T20 Internationals on Wednesday.
