Dane Paterson celebrates during a Proteas match.
The South African men’s cricket team is going to manage the workload of players when the One Day International (ODI) Series against Pakistan starts in Paarl tomorrow.
Regular ODI captain Temba Bavuma will not play in the first match and Aiden Markram will take over the leadership. Bavuma says it makes sense, with three ODI’s and two tests against Pakistan in the next few weeks.
The Proteas have some momentum on their side after clinching the T20 series against the visiting Pakistan team.
“It was a good start to the series and some good cricket was played by the T20 boys so there’s momentum and confidence there. And we want to feed off the confidence the boys brought into the team,” says Bavuma.

The team now believes that whoever is in the playing 11 will be good enough.
“The main priority will always be winning and nothing changes that but within that objective we want to give ourselves the best opportunity to play our best cricket. And the squad we selected is the best players, and they have the ability to win games for their country. And at no point are we compromising on our main goal to win,” adds Bavuma.
The ODI series ends in Johannesburg on Sunday, while the test series starts in Centurion four days later.
