[File] Suspects accused of killing Senzo Meyiwa at the High Court in Pretoria.
The state prosecutor in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has told the court they are unable to find vehicle tracking data related to the transportation of accused number one, Muzi Sibiya, during his arrest in May 2020.
The disclosure follows a request by defence counsel Charles Mnisi, who argued that the data is central to Sibiya’s defence.
State prosecutor George Baloyi told the court they had obtained an affidavit from the Ekurhuleni Metro Police, who reported that they had not been successful in retrieving the vehicle movement data.
The official stated that the vehicles in question were allocated to the SWAT team during 2020 and that no AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) data is available for that period.
“My Lord, that he conducted a thorough search within the city’s fleet tracking system, or that the current tracking system, My Lord, was only implemented after 2020,” says Baloyi.
