Progress made toward ending load reduction: Ramokgopa

Minister of Electricity and Energy Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says government is making significant progress toward ending load reduction across the country.

Ramokgopa was engaging with community members at Phakane village, Botlokwa, in Limpopo.

Eskom is implementing load reduction daily in some areas.

Ramokgopa says the government is working with municipalities, Eskom and law enforcement agencies to strengthen infrastructure, upgrade transformers and curb illegal connections.

“As part of this exercise we will eliminate all illegal connections, so what we do is that we normalise them; when we are normalising, it means that they get to know that they are on the grid, we increase the capacity of the reticulation infrastructure, we refurbish it where it’s necessary and then we roll out smart meters. That’s the key to the success of ending load reduction and I’m sure that we will be done with Botlokwa in the next three months; that is, the rolling out of smart meters.”
