Prince Simakade’s supporters disappointed by court ruling on Misuzulu

Members of the AmaZulu royal family who support Prince Simakade Zulu have expressed their disappointment in the Supreme Court of Appeal’s judgement, which overturned a High Court order invalidating President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recognition of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.

The president had appealed the judgement, arguing that he acted lawfully in recognising the king.

Zwelithini’s eldest son, Prince Simakade, believes he is the rightful heir to the AmaZulu throne and not his brother, King Misuzulu.

Two weeks ago, the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) found in favour of the president, dismissing Prince Mbonisi Ka Bhekuzulu’s application with costs.

The spokesperson of the side that opposes King Misuzulu, Prince Thokozani Zulu, says they still have confidence in the judiciary.

“The mere fact that His Majesty approached the courts to adjudicate on the matter is a clear demonstration that His Majesty does believe in the judiciary, but under the circumstances that we are being adjudicated upon, in terms of foreign law, Roman-Dutch law, which is part of the English law, customary law.”

Prince Zulu says they’re consulting with their legal team.

“Whether his majesty will be taking the matter to the highest court … in fact, that’s a constitutional right of any South African, and now we can’t have separate laws for his majesty,” says Prince Zulu.

Prince Zulu also blames political interference for the current situation – that embroiled the royal family .
