A faction of the AmaZulu Royal Family supporting Prince Simakade is optimistic about the upcoming case aimed at unseating the AmaZulu monarch. They are confident that the Supreme Court of Appeal will uphold a judgment by the High Court in Pretoria that set aside President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recognition of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.

In December 2023, the court ruled that President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to recognize King Misuzulu kaZwelithini as the rightful heir to the AmaZulu throne was unlawful and invalid.

President Ramaphosa appealed the decision. It’s scheduled to be heard by the Supreme Court of Appeals on May 28 and 29.

Prince Thokozani Zulu, speaking on behalf of Prince Smakade, called for unity in the royal family.

“Ingonyama sounded a clarion call to all members of the Zulu Royal Family that it is imperative for the unity in the Zulu Royal Family to be forged for all the good reasons, issues of stability, and issues of the decorum of the throne; however, it takes two to tango. Now, whenever His Majesty sounds a clarion call for different narratives of the Zulu Royal Family to engage, it can only materialize once one or more sections of the Zulu Royal Family decide to embrace the process.”
