Pretoria truck crash claims five lives

Five people have been killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a light motor vehicle on the R566 near Rama City in Akasia, Pretoria.

Authorities say the crash happened on Wednesday night.

They say the truck veered onto oncoming traffic before colliding with the other vehicle, which was carrying five occupants.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation’s (RTMC) spokesperson, Simon Zwane says, “It is alleged that the truck was travelling in the west direction when it collided with a big rock on the roadway, causing the driver to lose control and veer into the opposite travel lane where it crashed head-on into the Suzuki Ertiga.”

Zwane says, “The area is allegedly notorious for rock placement on the roadway. RTMC crash investigation unit is on scene and an update will be issued later.”
