President Ramaphosa to address the nation

President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation at seven o’clock on Sunday evening. This follows South Africa’s successful hosting of the G20 Leaders’ Summit.

The country has received congratulatory messages from various leaders on the successful hosting of the event.

Leaders and policy makers gathered in Nasrec, Johannesburg to discuss issues on solidarity, equality, and sustainability. It marked the event’s first-ever hosting on African soil.

The Chairperson of MTN Group and former South African Deputy Minister of Finance, Mcebisi Jonas, has hailed the  summit as a major milestone for South Africa’s global positioning.

Jonas says the historic summit has underscored the strength of global support for multilateralism.

“Look, I mean, the G20 was a very important moment for South Africa, but also for the world, because if you think about it, if you want to look at the world today, you’ve got two contending forces, forces against multilateralism and in favour of multilateralism, and both are strong, no doubt, but the G20 was a success for multilateral forces. It shows that in the world, we still have very strong forces that support trade, very strong forces that support multilateral action as it were.”
