President Ramaphosa signs amended Political Funding Act into law

President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed into law regulations doubling the upper limit of donations to political parties from R15 million to R30 million and the threshold for disclosure from R100 000 to R200 000.

The move to amend the Political Funding Act of 2021 follows the adoption of the new regulations by the National Assembly in May.

The President has passed the legislation despite a pending judgment in the Western Cape High Court on the matter launched by NGO, My Vote Counts (MVC).

MVC seeks to have the upper limit of donations significantly lowered from R15 million and all private donations disclosed regardless of amount.
