Deputy Trade, Industry and Competition Minister, Andrew Whitfield.
Democratic Alliance (DA) Spokesperson Willie Aucamp says it’s high time that President Cyril Ramaphosa realised that he does not govern alone anymore.
His remarks followed what the DA calls the unjust firing of its member, Andrew Whitfield, as Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition.
Aucamp says Ramaphosa is putting the Government of National Unity (GNU) at risk by firing the Deputy Trade, Industry and Competition Minister, Andrew Whitfield.
He further questions the reasons behind this decision.
“Has he been fired really for going to another country without permission? Or because they’re afraid of what he may do in that portfolio. And for that we do not have the answer. That is not the point of our discussion. But the president went in as far to fire the deputy minister, one of his partners of the GNU. So, that’s not how it works in the GNU. It is high time that the president must realize that he’s the president. But doesn’t govern alone anymore. And there should be more respect within the GNU and how we are going about this,” says Aucamp.
