Power-sharing tensions escalate between ANC, SANCO in North West

The standoff between the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West and one of its alliance partners in the province, the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) is deepening.

SANCO has now announced that it is disengaging from all alliance activities.

The civic organisation is accusing the ANC of sidelining them during decision-making processes.

The two parties have been at each other’s throats since the resignation of former North West Legislature Deputy Speaker Tshepo Khoza, who is also SANCO provincial chairperson, after allegations that he faked his matric qualifications.

SANCO Provincial Secretary Mogomotsi Mosheshe says they believe that certain things are not addressed.

“Even where SANCO is sitting. Equally, we have worked elections, and we were all over making sure that the African National Congress wins the elections. And when other decisions are taken, we believe that we are sidelined as the province. The African National Congress doesn’t take us seriously; it doesn’t take us seriously as equal partners in this alliance.”
