City of Tshwane vehicles and technicians are seen at a Koedoespoort substation in Pretoria on 02 January 2026.
Power has been restored in East Lynne in Pretoria. Residents there say they have been without electricity for a fortnight.
The prolonged outage followed after a fire at the Koedoespoort substation.
Residents and business owners in the area say the situation has left them stranded and suffering losses over the past few days.
However, the City of Tshwane MMC for Utility Services, Frans Boshielo has reassured residents that teams of technicians are on site working around the clock to resolve the issue.
He says less than 10 houses are without power now.
“We are happy that now we have worked swiftly to ensure that we procure the external contractors to come and work with us. I have been speaking to the service provider and they mentioned that for them to be able to put up the new cable, they need four or five days. So, they promised us that by Sunday they would have done all the necessary work.”
SABC News earlier spoke to residents in the area who expressed frustration over the outages:
