Transformer substation caught alight, destroying infrastructure and electrical equipment.
The City of Tshwane says technicians are working around the clock to restore power to areas affected by a fire incident at the Olivenhoutbosch substation in the early hours of Thursday morning. Some of the affected areas include Zwartkop, Highveld and Eco Park.
The fire was caused by cable theft resulting in damage to critical electrical equipment.
City of Tshwane Spokesperson Lindela Mashigo says the restoration might take several days to complete.
“One transformer is confirmed to be in a serviceable condition while further testing and repairs continue on the remaining equipment. However, the damage is extensive including destroyed cabling and switch gear meaning restoration will take several days to complete safely.”
