Mayor John Mpe
Embattled Polokwane Municipality Mayor John Mpe believes there is a political campaign within the ANC as well other political parties to smear his name.
Mpe was reacting after the withdrawal of an urgent application to compel him to provide documents related to some transactions.
The Hawks withdrew the urgent application for access to information which was filed last week Thursday and was set to be heard in the High Court in Polokwane, Limpopo, on Tuesday.
Mpe says the investigations against him have been politicized.
“We will always corporate with any investigation if there are any allegations with substance so there is a smear campaign which is spearheaded by those internal within the organisation and if the Hawks want to investigate, does not have to be politicized. It is an investigation but once you start conniving with those that are fighting political battles and they just right things and submit to you without any evidence, obvious we will question,” says Mpe.
Meanwhile, ActionSA has opened a criminal case against Mpe at the Polokwane police station. The party’s Limpopo chairperson Victor Mothemela says they have sufficient evidence to assist police.
“We have done our work we have all the necessary evidence that is needed by the court, or the SAPS and we are going to submit whatever documents in our possession while we are opening this criminal charges obviously. We want John Mpe to be arrested,” says Mothemela.
