Water drops running from a tap.
The Polokwane Municipality has disputed reports that the death of three children in Seshego township in Limpopo is linked to the quality of water it supplies to the residents of the area.
This comes after residents of areas around Polokwane and Seshego were treated for waterborne diseases at public and private health facilities for diseases including diarrhoea.
Some of them suspect water contamination.
However, Executive Mayor John Mpe says investigations have revealed that this is not the case.
“The Department of Health released its own statement following extensive monitoring and investigations. The department has confirmed that it has found no link between municipal water supply and the reported cases, as I’ve alluded to. It further confirmed that there is no child death linked to water-borne diseases, that all tested samples returned negative for waterborne pathogens and that water from the main municipal system was found to be compliant.”
