Polokwane Mayor won’t comment on Hawks investigations

Embattled Polokwane Municipality Mayor John Mpe says he will not make any comment on the investigations by the Hawks as the matter is already before the courts.

He was reacting to the ruling of the High Court in Polokwane, which struck off the roll an urgent application to compel him to furnish the Hawks with documents relating to transactions that involved the municipality, the Makoro Foundation and the municipal manager.

Mpe says he respects the legal process.

He says, “Once the matter is in front of the court there is a word called sub judice, all along we would be free to talk about this issue. I respect the rule of law and the court has proven from time to time to not be tempted by political pressure.”
