The High Court in Polokwane is expected to hear the Hawks’ urgent application to compel the executive mayor of the Polokwane Municipality John Mpe, to furnish them with documents.
This application was previously withdrawn last Thursday, with no indication of the reason for the withdrawal.
Mpe is under investigation for alleged corruption, including granting municipal tenders to close associates.
There are also allegations that the contractors paid kickbacks to Mpe’s Makoro Foundation after receiving payments from the municipality.
The Hawks’ national spokesperson, Brigadier Thandi Mbambo confirmed that the matter has been set to be heard in the High Court on Tuesday.
John Mpe believes that there is a political campaign within political parties to smear his name.
