The African National Congress (ANC) says it will use the year 2026 to prepare for the upcoming Local Government Elections.
This is as political parties head to the polls in the municipal elections, expected to take place before the end of the year.
ANC Spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu says the ANC’s priority is to strengthen local government and improve service delivery.
Bhengu made the remarks while delivering the ANC’s New Year’s Day message.
“Through renewal, direct engagement with communities and readiness to govern, we enter the new year committed to turning economic progress into tangible improvements in the daily lives of South Africans.”

DA leader John Steenhuisen has encouraged eligible voters to register for the upcoming 2026 local government elections. Steenhuisen made the comments while delivering the party’s New Year’s Day message to South Africans.
The DA leader says that the party is committed to fighting for urgent reforms within the GNU to ensure that opportunities are expanded for many South Africans.
“In 2026, our priority remains clear. We need service delivery, jobs, safety, and to tackle corruption even harder. This is how we restore dignity, reduce poverty, and open up opportunities for every South African. This year also brings a crucial moment for our democracy, the 2026 local government elections. Local government is where services succeed or fail, where communities either collapse or come back to life.”

The Patriotic Alliance (PA) has declared the year 2026 as Twenty Twenty-Fix. Deputy President Kenny Kunene says South Africans should use the year to focus on fixing the country.
Kunene made the comments while delivering the party’s New Year’s Day message.
“So in 2026, let us commit to fixing the borders. Let us commit to fixing the rate of unemployment. Let us commit to fixing crime. Let us commit to fixing drug abuse. Let us commit to fixing GBV. Let us commit to fixing the economy of our country. Let us commit to fixing racism. Let us commit to fixing all the social ills in our beautiful country, South Africa.”
