Police vow to prevent disruptions at G20 Summit

Police say they’ll ensure that the G20 Leaders’ summit is not disrupted.

This follows the arrest of two members of Operation Dudula on Saturday during a protest outside the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg, the venue of the summit.

Chaos erupted when police fired rubber bullets after Operation Dudula members attempted to march towards the Expo Centre.

A police officer was injured in the commotion.

On Sunday, members of the United Front are expected to march from Diepkloof in Soweto to the Nasrec Expo Centre.

National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says, “We are going to make sure that there are no disruptions towards the G20 leaders summit, and we have long maintained that we are here to ensure that the G20 leaders summit takes place in a safe, secure, and peaceful environment, so we are here to enforce the law, and that is our mandate, and we will continue to do so.”
