Ahead of the National Policing Summit, the Ministry of Police hosts the Ministerial Business Commitment Dinner, a key event designed to showcase the growing and impactful collaboration between business and law enforcement.
The South African Policing Union (SAPU) says the Police Summit starting today in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, must lead to practical and enforceable resolutions rather than being reduced to a talk show.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the three-day summit, which is aimed at tackling high crime levels by reviewing current policing strategies and exploring new approaches.
SAPU spokesperson Lesiba Thobakgale says the summit must address critical challenges facing the police, including officer safety, morale, promotions, and lack of resources.
Thobakgale says, “Our position remains clear that police killings needs to be dealt with and it should be declared a Treason and the resourcing of the South African Police Services itself, I mean the human capital and also physical resources they are still a challenge which becomes a hindrance for the police to do their job. And we are also calling that this summit shouldn’t be just a talk show and whatever resolutions that comes out there, whatever documents that are concluded from the summit should not collect dust but we should see implementation.”
