Gauteng police have discovered a drug laboratory worth more than R10 million and arrested two suspects, aged 51 and 49, during a raid in Westonaria.

The operation was carried out by Crime Intelligence and the Gauteng Organised Crime Unit after police observed suspicious activity at the location. A search and seizure warrant was obtained, leading to the raid.

During the search, officers found a fully operational drug lab, seizing mandrax and machinery used for manufacturing, processing, and packaging drugs.

One of the suspects, reported to be the owner of the house, was arrested inside the lab, while further investigation led to the arrest of a second suspect nearby. Both have been charged with manufacturing and dealing in drugs.

Gauteng Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni commended the team for their efforts.

“The discovery and dismantling of drug labs and the arresting of kingpins will help in stopping the selling of drugs in the streets of Gauteng that eventually leads to the commission of serious and violent crimes,” says Mthombeni.
