Rescue operations are under way to retrieve illegal miners in Stilfontein.

Police have confirmed that a cage has been lowered down shaft 11 in Stilfontein, North West, to verify reports by community volunteers that there are no illegal miners remaining underground.
Police say the total number of illegal miners retrieved is sitting at 246, while 78 were certified dead.
The operation to retrieve illegal miners started on Monday.
Police say of the more than 200 illegal miners who were retrieved 128 are Mozambicans, 80 are from Lesotho, 33 are Zimbabweans and five are South Africans.
