Police seek public help to find missing SABC veteran Manas Tshungu

Gauteng police are appealing to the public for assistance in locating Phaki Manas Tshungu, who has been reported missing in Atteridgeville.

Tshungu, a 69-year-old retired SABC News Manager and former political reporter, was last seen on Monday after leaving his home and failing to return.

Police have launched efforts to trace his whereabouts.

His family is urgently seeking help, saying they have searched the neighbourhood without success.

A missing person’s case was opened at the local police station on Wednesday.

“He was last seen on Monday morning by the family’s helper walking out, and all attempts to call his phone have proved unsuccessful as it only rang until it sounded off, later the same day,” says a family member.

His wife says they’re worried about his whereabouts, especially in this cold weather.

“The last time he disappeared, he managed to get back home after three days, but he didn’t know the events that led to his disappearance,” says Tshungu’s wife.

Tshungu retired as a regional editor for the SABC’s Limpopo office in 2013, after joining the public broadcaster in 1983.

Police have urged anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact the Atteridgeville Branch Commander on 079 891 4196 or alternatively call the Crime Stop hotline at 08600 10111.
