Police say the suspects involved in the murder of Olorato Mongale are part of a syndicate that targets and robs women, particularly in shopping malls.

Mongale’s body was discovered on Sunday, just hours after she was picked up for a date by a man driving a VW Polo.

The vehicle has since been recovered in Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal.

Police are currently on the hunt for three suspects believed to be linked to Mongale’s murder.

The vehicle’s owner, who is the father of one of the three wanted suspects, has been arrested.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe says they are also investigating two other similar murder cases reported in Sandton.

“We are investigating a syndicate. We do believe that we have broken the back of a syndicate that is targeting women, especially young women out there. Whether they utilise the same modus operandi, they propose to these young women, usually approach them in malls, ask them out on dates, when the women agree, that is when they plan to rob them,” says Mathe.
