Police in the Western Cape say they are investigating a case of pointing a firearm, following videos on social media of the Deputy Mayor of the Bitou Municipality in Plettenberg Bay allegedly firing a gun.
The incident allegedly shows councillor Nokuzola Kolwapi, firing several shots into the air at a ceremony in KwaNokuthula, welcoming initiates back home.
Police spokesperson, Chris Spies, says Kwanokuthula police visited the premises after a video of the incident was circulated on social media.
He says the investigation is at an early stage and no arrests has been made yet.
Kolwapi is the leader of the Ikhwezi People’s Movement (IPM).
The IPM says it will issue a statement later today.
