Police forensic teams from Gauteng and Mpumalanga have been combing a crime scene at Rust de Winter in Gauteng, where the human remains of two people were discovered on Thursday.

Police say DNA tests will be conducted to ascertain if they belong to missing journalist Aserie Ndlovu and his partner, Zodwa Mdhluli.

The couple was last seen on the 18th of February in Pretoria.

Five people have been arrested in connection with the couple’s disappearance.

Mpumalanga Acting Police Commissioner Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi has attributed this breakthrough to the collaborative effort.

“It has helped a lot to come where we are today. Of course, there’s still a lot of work to be done to make sure that these are the real people that we are looking for. But definitely bringing all of us together, working together with different skills, and believe me, if you can mention it’s a lot of different people who came here to find that at the end of the day, we have these bodies that we picked up at the end of the day. No matter how the situation is. But at least we have got somewhere at this stage.”
