Bullet casings and broken glass at a crime scene.
A Johannesburg police officer stationed at Park Station is set to appear in the Protea Magistrate Court tomorrow on charges of murder. The officer allegedly shot and killed a man in Protea Glen, Soweto, on the Day of Goodwill.
According to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), the victim was shot in the chest by a man in full police uniform. The suspect fled the scene in a silver Toyota Etios but was arrested on Friday in Atteridgeville, Tshwane.
IPID spokesperson Lizzy Suping says, “After the incident, the accused officer allegedly fled the scene. Unfortunately, the victim was declared dead at the crime scene. A bullet and cartridge were recovered at the site.”
Suping added that the officer was scheduled for night duty at Park Station on the day of the incident but failed to report for work.
