The High Court in Johannesburg has ruled that a police officer accused of murdering his girlfriend, Gauteng crime warden Chesnay Keppler, forfeit his R20 000 bail and remain in custody until his trial is concluded.
Mandla Buthelezi was rearrested last week for violating his bail conditions, leading to the revocation of his bail.
He allegedly shot and killed Keppler during a domestic dispute on Boxing Day last year. Buthelezi’s expected back in court next month.
Another police officer, Llewellyn Meyers who was allegedly present during the shooting, is facing attempted murder charges.
NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane says Buthelezi intimidated witnesses and failed to report to the police station as required by law.

He was previously granted bail of R20 000, which has now been forfeited to the state,” says Mjonondwane.
