Police kill four, arrest one in Gauteng cash-in-transit crackdown


Four suspects have been killed and one arrested during a police intelligence-driven operation targeting a group linked to cash-in-transit heists in the Bapsfontein and Bronkhorstspruit areas in Gauteng.

The incident took place on Friday night after police from Gauteng and Mpumalanga spotted two suspects’ vehicles on the R25 road from Bronkorspruit to Bapfontein. Police then recovered unlicensed firearms, ammunition, and vehicles.

The provincial Community Safety Department has commended law enforcement agencies for the co-ordinated efforts.

The department’s spokesperson Ofentse Morwane says it is this type of coordinated efforts amongst law enforcement agencies that people will begin to realize this type of successes.

“We wish to commend our law enforcement officers for their dedication for clamping on crime here in Gauteng. We will continue to avail resources to create safer environment for the citizens of Gauteng.”
