The officers were patrolling near Tshirundu village as part of Operation Vala Umgodi when they received a tip-off about a plan to smuggle goods to Zimbabwe.

The suspects were using eight small boats.

Police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng says, “The SAPS Operation Vala Umgodi has successfully thwarted a major smuggling operation along the Limpopo river in Musina leading to the confiscation of goods estimated approximately half a million. The suspects were using eight boats and when they noticed the SAPS members, they quickly got into their boats to the direction of Zimbabwe.
