Police in NC refutes claims of any link to Matlala associate

Police in Northern Cape has refuted social media claims that an associate linked to Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala is employed at Kuruman Police Station as a police captain.

Matlala’s name has been hogging the headlines since Sunday’s press conference by KwaZulu-Natal Commissioner Lieutenant-General, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, linking him to high profile politicians.

The social media post alleges that the current director of Matlala’s Medicare 24 company, Kenny Hlayiseka Baloyi, that was initially awarded a R360 million tender, which was later cancelled, is the official appointed in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District.

Provincial Police Spokesperson, Mashay Gamieldien says the provincial commissioner has instituted an internal investigation into the claims.

“The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola and management are aware of the post on social media platforms and has instructed that the allegations to be investigated internally. The police are making an urgent plea to the public to refrain from posting unverified or incorrect information on social media platforms without verification as it portrays negatively on the organization and implicated persons involved,” Gamieldien explains.
