Police in Bloemfontein have launched a manhunt for two suspects after a male cyclist was shot dead and another was forced to flee two attackers on the N1 near the Southpark dumping site.
Police say they found the body of a 46-year-old man. He had two gunshot wounds while the other cyclist was in shock.
Police spokesperson, Mahlomola Kareli says the two were riding their bicycles to work when they were approached by two men who were walking alongside the road.
As one of the cyclists attempted to pass the first suspect, he was struck on the back of the head with a brick and fell from his bicycle.
The second suspect then opened fire on the cyclist. The other rider survived by jumping off his bike and fleeing the scene.
Kareli says the suspects stole both bicycles. Occupants of a passing security vehicle assisted the surviving cyclist.
