Police discover drugs worth R2 mln at hijacked property in Houghton

Johannesburg Metro Police (JMPD) officers have discovered what they believe to be a drug packaging hub at a hijacked property in Houghton, Johannesburg.

During the raid on Friday night, officers discovered large quantities of prescription cough syrups, packed in boxes and processed dagga with an estimated street value of R2 million.

Joburg Public Safety MMC Mgcini Tshwaku says the drugs were destined for Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

He says eight suspects have been arrested.

“We came across this house here where they were housing a lot of medicine. This is a cough syrup with Codeine, you can’t really get it, you must get it with a prescription. Also, we got dagga that was destined for Zimbabwe,” says Tshwaku.
